Brow Lift

A sagging brow can be caused by genetics and become exacerbated with the effects of age and gravity. A forehead that droops usually pushes the upper eyelids downward and furrows the brow, creating a tired or angry expression.

At our office near Boston Common, you can have a brow lift to reverse some of these common signs of age and restore your forehead to a youthful position.

Dr. Waleed Ezzat is the lead surgeon at the Boston Center for Facial Plastics. He is double board certified in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and otolaryngology – head and neck surgery. His approach to facial rejuvenation emphasizes personalized procedures and natural-looking results so that each man and woman can feel happy with the reflection they see in the mirror.

When to Consider a Forehead Lift

The most common reasons women and men consider getting a brow lift include:

  • Deep horizontal lines across the forehead or on the bridge of the nose
  • Frown lines, or vertical wrinkles between the brows
  • Sagging eyebrows cause you to look tired

The best candidates for forehead surgery are in good overall physical and mental health and have realistic expectations for what the procedure can accomplish.

Before Your Brow Lift

Before scheduling your brow lift surgery, you will have a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Ezzat. During your consultation, Dr. Ezzat will listen to your aesthetic goals and concerns, answer any questions you may have and evaluate your needs. He will also explain the procedure in greater detail and give you an idea of the kinds of results you can expect.

Dr. Ezzat may also recommend alternative or additional treatments that would help you best meet your cosmetic goals. Some people who investigate their candidacy for a brow lift find that they are actually better candidates for upper eyelid surgery. Others may benefit from a combination of a brow lift and eyelid surgery, to address all signs of aging near the eyes. Finally, you may want to reverse some of the more advanced signs of aging in the lower face by combining facelift surgery with a brow lift for a comprehensive approach.

Your Brow Lift Procedure

Forehead surgery is an outpatient procedure that can be performed using either general anesthesia or a local sedative. The right type of anesthesia for you will depend on the surgical approach that you and Dr. Ezzat have decided upon, as well as whether any other treatments are being performed. Brow lift incisions are usually placed either in or behind the hairline to hide them as best as possible.

During your eyebrow lift, Dr. Ezzat will lift the forehead skin to adjust the musculature underneath. By doing so, Dr. Ezzat can recreate a more youthful look for the upper face. He will then carefully close and dress the incisions.

Your Forehead Lift Recovery

As with any surgery, recovering from an eyebrow lift is a gradual process. Your exact speed of recovery will be influenced by your lifestyle, health and whether you have included additional procedures. You can expect some bruising and swelling, which should begin to subside after the first week. Feelings of tightness or discomfort are normal and can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications.

Most people return to work after 10 to 14 days of healing following a forehead lift. It’s important that you avoid strenuous activities for 1 month after surgery to prevent too much blood pressure in the head. It takes the body a year to fully heal, but you should begin to see initial results after 4 to 6 months.

Your New Look

After healing from your forehead surgery, you should notice a significant rejuvenation to the upper face. Horizontal wrinkles and frown lines should be diminished while the area near the eyes should appear more alert and refreshed.

Brow Lift FAQs

How much does a brow lift cost?

Total cost depends on the type of  brow lift and procedures that you require to attain the look that you desire. The total cost will include items such as surgeon’s fee, facility or anesthesia fees, medications, and other costs. The best way to get an accurate brow lift cost estimate is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ezzat to discuss the details of your procedure.

Is a brow lift the best facial plastic surgery for me?

A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, could be an appropriate solution if you are bothered by the appearance of a drooping brow, deep wrinkles across the center of your forehead or creases between your eyebrows.

While a brow lift can help to open your eye area to create a brighter, more alert appearance, an eyelid lift would be required to address drooping eyelids as well. Some people choose to combine these two procedures for more comprehensive results.

What’s the best age to get a brow lift?

The majority of men and women who request a brow lift are between the ages of 40 and 65, though there is no right or wrong age to get facial plastic surgery. Some younger people may be genetically predisposed to developing a furrowed or drooping brow at a younger age and might therefore opt for a brow lift earlier than average.

Can BOTOX® give you a brow lift?

Yes, BOTOX can help to raise your brow and smooth away wrinkles and creases on your forehead and around your eyes. However, BOTOX results typically wear away after 3 to 6 months, requiring regular touch-ups. Additionally, BOTOX will not produce the same dramatic results that a surgical procedure like a brow lift or eyelid lift can.

How painful is a brow lift?

Most people report feeling only mild pain or discomfort in the first several days after getting a brow lift. This procedure is generally well-tolerated, though as with any surgery, swelling, bruising and tenderness are common side effects. Dr. Ezzat will provide you with detailed recovery guidelines to help make your healing process as efficient and comfortable as possible.

When will I see my brow lift results?

Brow lift results will gradually develop over time, usually becoming fully visible around 2 to 3 months after your procedure. Swelling and bruising can mask your initial results, so give yourself time to rest and recover before assessing your outcome. As your body continues to heal, you should continue to see an improvement in your appearance.

How long does a brow lift last?

On average, brow lift results last around 10 to 15 years before a touch-up procedure might be required. Some people may never need to have their brow lift redone, depending on factors like their age and lifestyle habits. To help prolong your brow lift results, adopt healthy habits like avoiding deliberate tanning, managing stress, getting enough sleep and drinking plenty of water.
